The first images of Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season have hit the internet, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly’s SDCC preview issue.
Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham is, of course, the subject of the first of two images released by EW.
It features Burnham on the Enterprise. The caption accompanying the still suggests that Burnham is on the bridge of the Enterprise, however, the setting matches that of an earlier start of production video that showed her entering Spock’s quarters.
While Martin-Green could not reveal much in the special issue to EW, she did say that the new season is “going to be phenomenal.”
“Beyond that, we’re really going to be digging into family,” Martin-Green added. “A lot of questions are going to be raised; some are going to be answered.”
The second image released by EW came via Trek News. It was featured in the print-only issue, whereas the image of Burnham was posted to EW’s website. Trek News shared a low-resolution version of the image, which is of a new alien science officer.
“His name is Linus, and he’s a Saurian,” Martin-Green said of the new addition. “We’ve seen his species before, so I’m excited to see if [fans] can pinpoint just exactly where.”
Saurians might be a familiar species to any fans of Star Trek: they are famed for their brandy, and once made a brief, background appearance in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. This is the first time a Saurian will play a significant role on a crew on a Star Trek series.
Further information about season 2 should be expected in the coming week. Star Trek: Discovery will have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 20, in Hall H. Hopefully that might mean a trailer is also on the horizon.
