It looks like we’re going to have to wait a bit longer for Square Enix’s epic JRPG remake, but all of that waiting could very well be worth it.
Announced on a Square Enix blog post, the game’s producer Yoshinori Kitase related to fans his regret at having to delay the long-anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date.
“We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on,” writes Kitase. “In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020.”
According to recently leaked assests, it could just be that the reason Kitase’s team has decided to delay the game’s release is to work on a rumored VR mode for the game.

Evidence of a FF7 Remake VR mode comes via a leak of a yet-to-be-made-public Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo. The datamined demo reveals one of the music tracks embedded in the demo’s code is that of a “VR Menu,” suggesting there is at least some portion of the game that will be playable using Sony’s PlayStation VR Headset.
In the blog post, Kitase references that “We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience.” The Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date may have been pushed from March 3 to April 10 so that the team could apply a last-minute “polish” to a VR mode. Word on if or when the FF7 Remake demo will hit the PlayStation Store is still mum, but seeing as it has been leaked, Square Enix could potentially decide to release the full demo for the PlayStation exclusive in either February or March 2020.
