Christian Grey will have some competition from José Rodriguez, portrayed by Victor Rasuk, who was cast in the book-to-film adaptation today.
In the series by E.L. James, José is a close friend of Anastasia Steel and the leading lady describes him as attractive, funny, nice, smart, and conventional. Sadly for José, she only sees him as a friend. Christian still sees him as a rival and the two men have a tense relationship because of the former’s insecurity. José appears in all three Fifty Shades books. He’s the Jacob Black of the series (James’ trilogy was originally a Twilight fan fiction).
Rasuk will appear in the new Godzilla movie in 2014 as Tre Morales. He also had a role in the Ashton Kutcher-led Jobs movie earlier this year. He is 29 years old.
Over the past week Fifty Shades of Grey casting has moved quickly as we approach the early December start of production. A week ago we learned that Luke Grimes will play Christian’s brother. The titular character himself will be played by Jamie Dornan who replaced Charlie Hunnam after the latter got cold feet about the project.
Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to open in theaters August 1, 2014. Anastasia will be played by Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle will play Carla, and the picture will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson for Universal.
The production confirmed today’s casting news via a retweet by author James. Thanks, Deadline.
