Fox Star Studios has announced that the book to film adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars will be remade in Hindi.

In a statement shared by The Hollywood Reporter, the Bollywood studio said that the popularity of the film encouraged them to make a version of The Fault in Our Stars for India.

“We think the story will have an emotional connect with Indian audiences,” said Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh. “The original English version was released here a couple of weeks ago and is still running. The film has done a business of about $1 million. We had actually thought of adapting it locally even before the film was released here.”

Now that the film has been a wild success around the globe ($263 million worldwide), we can see why they’ve decided to move ahead with a Bollywood version.

A director and cast for the new Fault in Our Stars have not been finalized.

“Bollywood” refers to the majority of the Indian movie industry who’s films end up reaching audiences around the world.

Meanwhile, fans who’ve seen the Hollywood version of The Fault in Our Stars are looking forward to the film’s September 16 release on DVD and Blu-ray. Check out all the special features!

The “original” Fault in Our Stars was directed by Josh Boone and starred Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. It is based on the book of the same name by John Green.

Thanks to the success of Fault, book to film adaptations of Green’s other popular novels Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska are now in development. In a couple of years we may be speaking about their Bollywood versions, too!
