Netflix is about to breathe new life into the Fast & Furious franchise in an unexpected way.
The streamer has officially ordered an animated Fast & Furious series based off of the popular action movie franchise. It’s part of a multi-year deal Netflix has inked with DreamWorks, and the new series is set to focus on a new character with Toretto family ties.
According to the official synopsis for the series, the animated show will follow the adventures of a teenager named Tony Toretto as he follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom (played in the movies by Vin Diesel).

Tony’s fast-paced adventure kicks off when he had his friends find themselves recruited by a government agency. Their mission? To infiltrate an elite racing league that’s secretly serving as a front for an evil crime organization with plans to take over the world.
Tim Hendrick (Voltron: Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (The Penguins of Madagascar) will team up to serve as executive producers and showrunners on the new animated series.
Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan, all of whom serve as producers on the film franchise, will be serving as executive producers on the animated series alongside Hendrick and Haaland.
There’s currently no word on when the Fast & Furious animated series is set to premiere on Netflix.
