As January comes to a close, it can be difficult to stay motivated to stick to your New Year’s fitness resolutions. But fandom is there to keep you going.
If, like many of us, one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get fit — for any number of varying and valid reasons — you may be finding your motivation waning as we move out of January. Slipping back into old habits happens, but you can leverage the power of fandom to keep you inspired, no matter your fitness goal.
So, add a few of these fandom inspired tracks to your workout playlist, and push through into February and beyond.
Warm Up
Making sure that you warm up ahead of your workout is key, so you don’t end up over exerting yourself and pulling a muscle. To ease into your main workout, some instrumentals that build are a great choice. And, thankfully, there are many, many, many tracks to choose from. So, whether you’re a Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter fan, there’s something for every geeky fitness playlist.
Of course, the Lord of the Rings theme has been a staple on my fandom workout playlist for a long, long time. There’s something about starting off your workout with a track that basically epitomizes the sense of being on a journey that feels quite fitting.

Workout
This is where your playlist can get really fun. From Disney remixes, to superhero themes, to video game soundtracks, anything with a good beat will work here, and you can mix it up depending on your mood on any given day. Or, if you’re like us, and have a varied and eclectic series of fandom loves, you can just make the weirdest playlist ever. Whatever works for you!
My current favorite is the “Wonder Woman Theme,” because, well. You can’t listen to this and not feel completely inspired to take on the whole world, and reach whatever goal you’ve set for yourself. It makes me feel like a superhero — which helps, when you’re trying to lift weights.

Cool Down
Equally as important as a warm up, having the right tracks to accompany as you cool down is essential. My preference here is something easy listening while I stretch out my muscles following a long, satisfying workout. I tend to pick out something instrumental, though nothing quite as upbeat as the choices for warming up.
With the recent release of Kingdom Hearts 3, my current favorite cooldown track is the “Kingdom Hearts Overture.” Not only for nostalgia reasons, but it’s also just a really lovely piece and the perfect way to end a workout.
