The next time (if there is a next time) you break up with someone who you’ve already gone Facebook Official with, the social network will help you make the separation more seamless.
“Out of sight, out of mind,” as Kelly Clarkson sings, and Facebook appears to be taking that lyric to heart. Now when you break up with someone you’ll be presented with several options to make things easier, the social network said on Thursday.
For starters, upon switching your relationship status back to “single,” Facebook now gives you the option to see less of the person you’re breaking up with in your News Feed. This’ll help prevent painful reminders of that person’s existence (“Gosh, I miss that face. Wait, he’s at In-N-Out without me? That was OUR place! OUR place!”).
In addition Facebook now lets you prevent your former lover from seeing the latest photos, videos, or status updates that you’re posting while still remaining friends. This is a great feature because it may prevent any old feelings from being unintentionally dug up. We all know how that can go…
Finally, the social media site now lets you hide or untag all of those old posts of you two from back when you were experiencing bliss. “‘Having an amazing time with my one true love, [Insert Partner’s Name Here]!’ was so lame to write in hindsight!” you’ll say to yourself. “Good thing no one can see that in my timeline anymore.”
These new features are currently being rolled out in the United States to mobile devices.
For those of you who are thinking about going Facebook Official, these options will present some much needed comfort in making the commitment.
No word yet on if Facebook will automatically play a random selection of Adele songs upon changing your status to “single” so that you can wallow in your misery.
