The Evil Dead film series is about to be reborn for television, Starz announced today.
Perhaps the most exciting part of today’s Evil Dead revival announcement is that series star Bruce Campbell is returning to reprise his lead role as Ash. To make the news even sweeter: Director Sam Raimi will helm the first episode and executive produce the series.
What can you expect to find in the Evil Dead television series? Says Starz, “Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, ageing lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.”
Campbell is just as excited as you are about Evil Dead heading to television. “I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” he said in a release.
“Evil Dead has always been a blast,” Raimi added. “Bruce, Rob [Tapert], and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”
The Evil Dead television series will premiere sometime in 2015.
Campbell starred in all three Evil Dead movies which hit theaters in 1981, 1987, and 1992.
