A few weeks ago rumors stated that actress Emma Watson was up for a role in the book-to-film adaptation of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey, and although those were deemed false, Watson now says she’d consider the project.
“The thing is I haven’t read any of the book because I haven’t read a script so it’s quite difficult to know what I’m turning down potentially but I hear it’s quite raunchy,” she said to The Sun while promoting her latest film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
“I mean if there’s interesting character development and there’s an interesting story then I would consider it – but I haven’t been offered anything.”
Watson’s playing fair since she hasn’t read the book, and this is in no way an indication that producers will approach her for a role (presumably as the lead female Anastasia).
Is it in the actress’ best interest to avoid even considering the project? We think that her involvement could lend some major credibility to an adaptation.
Fifty Shades of Grey‘s author E.L. James is actively working on a film adaptation with producers who had taken on The Social Network. New Girl star Max Greenfield recently said he wants a role in the film. Meanwhile, the book continues to surge in sales. In August Amazon U.K. announced that the book surpassed Harry Potter in all-time sales.
