Emma Thompson could soon be joining Emma Stone in Disney’s next live-action retelling!
According to Variety, actress Emma Thompson is officially in talks to join the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action feature, Cruella.
If she signs on, Thompson’s involvement would mark the actress’ second foray into the world of live-action Disney adaptations.
Previously, Thompson lent her voices to Mrs. Potts in the studio’s 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.
Unfortunately, fans anxious to learn who Thopmson will be playing in Cruella will have to sit tight. There’s currently no information with regards to who she might be playing.
As for Stone, we’ve known for quite some time that she’ll be gearing up to don the baddie’s fabulous fur coats and play the titular character herself.
Plot details for the film are being kept underpass, but similar to Maleficent, Cruella will serve as an origin story for the notorious Disney villain whom we first met in 101 Dalmatians.
Behind the camera, I, Tonya helmer Craig Gillespie will serve as director on the project. He’ll be directing from a script written by Tony McNamara, who was tasked with rewriting the current script from a draft penned by Dana Fox.
Cruella is scheduled to hit theaters on December 23, 2020.
For now, Disney fans who’ve been loving the studio’s live-action trend won’t find themselves starving for new material.
Up next, the studio will premiere its live-action take on Aladdin (due out in theaters on May 24), followed by director Jon Favreau’s highly anticipated CGI rendition of The Lion King (due out in theaters on July 19).
