Brace yourselves, Mr. Holmes is heading to New York. John Noble joins Elementary season 4 as Sherlock’s father.
You can argue that Mr. Holmes cares for his son, Sherlock, but the detective would argue otherwise. The patriarch of the Holmes’ family is coming to New York this fall after Sherlock possibly fell off the wagon at the close of season 3.
John Noble will join the cast as a series regular this fall indicating that Mr. Holmes’ influence in Sherlock’s life is not going to be as short lived as he hoped. Noble is known for his roles in Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, and The Lord of the Rings.
Showrunner Rob Doherty had this to say about the casting: “We’ve enjoyed his work for many years now — especially his tremendous run on Fringe — and cannot wait to see him opposite Jonny and Lucy. It’s going to be an exciting season.”
While Sherlock tends to cast a harsh light on his father’s role in his life, perhaps season 4 will reveal another side. After all, Mr. Holmes got Sherlock help when he hit rock bottom, pays for his residence, and does not exactly demand that he take part in any of his business ventures.
The only manipulative task audiences have seen unfold occurred in episode 18, when a colleague of the detective approached him to create an heir to the Holmes family line.
It will be interesting to see the interaction between Sherlock and his pops when the series returns this fall.
Elementary returns with all new episodes on October 30, 2015.
