Terminator: Dark Fate will be bringing back a character sure to be familiar to fans of the long standing action franchise.
The cast and crew of Terminator: Dark Fate hit the Hall H stage on the first day of San Diego Comic-Con 2019, where they spoke about what’s in store for the next chapter in the series.
One of the most interesting tidbits to come out of the panel was news that the forthcoming action flick would mark the return of actor Edward Furlong.
Furlong will be reprising his role of John Connor in the next Terminator film— a role he last played in the 1991 sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
According to Nerdist, the announcement was made by Dark Fate co-writer/producer, James Cameron.
Cameron is currently wrapped up in working on his Avatar sequel so he wasn’t in attendance. He did, however, send along a special video message for fans in the audience, which included word of Furlong’s involvement.
Though Furlong was the one who originated the role of the young resistance leader, he hasn’t portrayed the character since his appearance in the sequel. That doesn’t mean we haven’t seen John Connor since, though.
Over the years, the character has been portrayed by the likes of Christian Bale (Terminator Salvation), Jason Clarke (Terminator Genisys), and Nick Sthal (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) But the fact that Furlong is returning to reprise his role— especially with Linda Hamilton back to reprise her role as John’s mother, Sarah— is definitely a big deal.
In addition, fans in house were treated to a new behind the scenes making of clip, which offers up a better glimpse of Terminator: Dark Fate.
“It’s R-rated, it’s grim, it’s gritty, it’s fast, it’s intense,” promises Cameron in the clip. “It’s a fast, white-knuckle ride.”
