Eddie Redmayne is in talks to join Jupiter Ascending, an upcoming original sci-fi film from the Wachowskis (The Matrix), starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum.
Variety reported the news, although Redmayne’s role in the film is not yet clear.
Jupiter Rising is set up at Warner Bros. and follows the story of a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the queen of the universe in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder. Andy and Lana Wachowski will write and direct the project, as well as serving as producers. The film is set to begin production in early 2013.
Redmayne is set to appear in Les Miserables on Dec. 25 and has previously had roles in My Week With Marilyn and The Other Boleyn Girl, as well as a Tony Award-winning role in Red. The deal has not yet been made, although Redmayne, who was previously shortlisted for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy, is expected to join the project, which would mark his first foray into the action/sci-fi genres.
Jupiter Ascending is already being planned for a IMAX 3D release, and the Wachowskis are teasing a “big visual idea” they say is “the next evolutionary jump in bullet-time,” the visual effect used to great effect in The Matrix trilogy. We’re definitely intrigued!
