Ed Westwick’s role in the BBC’s adaptation of Ordeal by Innocence has been recast, following allegations of sexual assault in November 2017.
Originally intended to be holiday special, Ordeal of Innocence was pulled from the schedule after allegations that Westwick had sexually assaulted three women came to light. The BBC also put White Gold, a comedy series starring Westwick, on hold.
When pulling Ordeal of Innocence from their schedule, the BBC stated they were “not making any judgement but until these matters are resolved we will not include Ordeal By Innocence in schedules.” Westwick has continued to deny the allegations.
That statement left the fate of the three-part drama up in the air, as an investigation into the allegations by the LAPD continued, but the BBC have ultimately decided to recast his role and reshoot Westwick’s previously completed scenes.
Christian Cooke has joined the series in Westwick’s place as Michael “Micky” Argyll, and will shoot scenes with cast members Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, Anthony Boyle and Alice Eve on location in Scotland.
Cooke has previously appeared in Doctor Who, Demons, Witches of East End and The Art of More.
As of now, there is no projected release date for Ordeal of Innocence, though co-producers Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited said it will come in due course. A decision on the fate of White Gold was not announced at this time.
