Afraid of another death on Downton Abbey series 4? Co-star Jim Carter is here to comfort your fears.
Speaking on the Emmy red carpet this past Sunday where the beloved ITV drama was nominated but did not win any major awards, Carter told TV Line, “I don’t think there are any deaths this season. You can settle back and relax — there are going to be no funerals this year.”
Carter plays the beloved head Butler Mr. Carson on Downton Abbey, and in the first episode of series 4 you’ll see him looking out for Lady Mary as she continues to struggle from the death of Matthew Crawley months after his tragic passing.

The past couple of seasons have not been kind to the hearts of viewers. Besides the death of Matthew, we also lost Lady Sybil. Both of the actors wanted to leave the show so writers were forced to send them out. It looks like no one had decided to depart the show after this season, so no deaths were necessary unless the characters were written out in other ways.
Earlier this month lead actress Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) had similar voiced similar comments about deaths on the show. “It has to remain as the ensemble, otherwise I don’t think we can keep going,” she said. “The core reason for the show’s success is that it’s a huge ensemble of such great characters. It was [one thing to lose] Sybil and Matthew. But any more of that, I think it will start to falter.”
Thanks, TV Line.
