Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are teaming up for a Mr. and Mrs. Smith series at Amazon!
On Friday (February 12), Amazon announces that Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are joining forces to create and star in a brand new Mr. and Mrs. Smith series coming down the pipeline at Amazon Studios.
Glover and Waller-Bridge’s series is based off of the hit 2005 New Regency action flick of the same name, which originally starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
The Atlanta vet and Fleabag alum will be serving as executive producers on the project along with co-creator and executive producer Francesca Sloane. Sloane, who will serve as showrunner on the series, previously worked with Glover on Atlanta and has also worked on Fargo.
Other executive producers on the project include Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer (New Regency), and Jenny Robins (Wells Street Films).
As for Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Emmy Award winners are no strangers to working together. The duo previously starred opposite each other in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The Star Wars stand alone found Glover playing a younger version of the iconic Lando Calrissian, while Waller-Bridge lent her voice to Lando’s droid partner, L3-37.
In a statement announcing the exciting news, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke spoke of how much everyone at the studio is looking forward to seeing what the two stars cook up for the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series.
“Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team,” said Salke. “Mr. and Mrs. Smith is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We’re thrilled to be working with them, and with such great partners at New Regency.”
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series starring Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge debut.
