Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has found its newest cast member in actress Xochitl Gomez.
According to Deadline, Xochitl Gomez, who recently starred in Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club series, has signed on to join the cast of Marvel’s Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Unfortunately, those looking to find out more about who Gomez might be portraying as part of the highly anticipated sequel will have to sit tight. As with most Marvel projects, plot details— as well as character specifics— are being kept close to the chest for the time being.
Xochitl Gomez joins returning cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, all of whom have signed on to reprise their roles as Steven Strange, Wong, and Mordo, respectively.
Also set to appear in the sequel is fellow Avengers vet Elizabeth Olsen, who is set to reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch) for the film.
Behind the camera, the sequel is set to be directed by Sam Raimi, who is no stranger to Marvel. Raimi’s credits include helming 2002’s Spider-Man starring Toby Maguire as the titular web slinger.
Currently, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is expected to hit theaters on March 25, 2022. Given the release date shuffle brought on by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic however, it’s possible that release date will change if Marvel and Disney find themselves having to move things around as a result of continued theater closures.
Fans won’t have to wait until 2022 to catch Benedict Cumberbatch back in action as the super sorcerer, however.
In addition to returning for the sequel, Cumberbatch is also set to reprise his role as Stephen Strange— this time starring opposite Tom Holland in Spider-Man 3. The third spidey flick is set to debut on December 17, 2021.
