Update (8/22/19): Looks like Book of Enchantment won’t be getting the adaptation treatment after all.
Back in February, we heard word that Disney+ was looking to turn
Serena Valentino’s popular Disney Villains book series into a series. Now, it sounds as though Disney+ has pulled the plug on plans to go forward with the adaptation.
According to Deadline (who was also first to report about the proposed adaptation), the decision to scrap the project came down to creative differences.
Specifically, those involved with the Book of Enchantment adaptation couldn’t see eye-to-eye on what tone or direction to take the adaptation in.
It’s unfortunate news for those who may have been looking forward to seeing Valentino’s series brought to life. That being said, when Disney+ makes its grand debut, the streaming platform won’t be short of original content.

Original Story (2/27/19): Serena Valentino’s Disney Villains book series may soon be getting the adaptation treatment.
According to Deadline, Disney is currently in the process of developing a new series based off of author Serena Valentino’s popular Villains book series.
Titled Book of Enchantment, the series would be an adaptation of Valentino’s books which focus on some of Disney’s most notorious big bads.
Valentino’s series is comprised of five books thus far, the first of which was published in 2009 and focuses on Snow White’s Evil Queen. The next installment of the series, The Odd Sisters is due out in the summer of 2019.
Though Disney has yet to comment on the news, a source close to the project tells Deadline that the series is “envisioned as an epic universe the weaves classic Disney tales told in a brand new way.”
The studio has reportedly tapped Quantico and Code Black vet Michael Seitzman to serve as showrunner on the new series. In addition, Seitzman is also set to write the pilot.
No other writers have signed on for the project, which is set to be released as part of the original content planned for Disney’s upcoming online streaming platform, Disney+.
Overall, Book of Enchantment seems like a perfect fit for Disney+ which boasts a slew of high-profile confirmed projects.
