Mindy Kaling is signing on to lend her voice to Monsters At Work at Disney+!
It looks like the upcoming Monsters, Inc. animated series at Disney+ has found its newest cast member in Mindy Kaling.
On Wednesday (March 17), the streamer announced that Kaling has officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated animated series spinoff.
Monsters At Work piggybacks off of Mike and Sulley’s discovery from the movie that children’s laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. The animated series begins the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel Monstropolis.
This time around, the story centers on Taylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman)— an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University, and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer. Unfortunately once Tylor gets hired at Monsters, Incorporated, he discovers that screams are out, and laughter is in. Now reassigned to the Facilities Team, he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.
Mindy Kaling comes aboard to take on the role of Val Little— an enthusiastic member of the Facilities Team.
Kaling took to Instagram to share a first look at her new character on the series.
“Hello, my name is Val and I would like to be your friend,” wrote the actress in the caption.
She joins returning cast member Bonnie Hunt, who will reprise her role of Ms. Flint. In the movie, Ms. Flint was in charge of training new Scarers. Now that that job has been void, she’s now in charge fo managing the department responsible for recruiting and training the funniest monsters to become Jokesters.
Others who will be voicing characters on the Facilities Team crew include Henry Winkler as Fritz, the scatterbrained boss; Lucas Neff as Duncan, an opportunistic plumber; and Alanna Ubach as Cutter, the officious rule follower.
Monsters At Work premieres via Disney+ on Friday, July 2.
