The Disney Channel Original Movie The Descendants premieres this summer, and a trailer finally offers a good look at this new film.
In The Descendants, directed by High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega, the offspring of the Disney villains are invited by the child of Belle and Beast to join the same prep school the children of the Disney heroes attend in an attempt to offer the baddies redemption.
The kids take up the offer but struggle to fit in at the school (surprise!). Watch the trailer below:
The Descendants trailer includes cute references to Disney classics like Carlos’ hatred for dogs (thanks to Cruella), but ultimately this preview leaves more to be desired.
Last summer — our last time reporting on The Descendants — we shared a first look at the costumes and nearly everyone looked under whelming (or Hot Topic-y, as pointed out by one of our readers). This trailer doesn’t do much to ease our concerns, but we do see that their costumes change for the better after they head to prep school.
Nonetheless, we’ll be watching when the new movie premieres this summer. After all, it’s a movie about the kids of the Disney villains. How can we resist?!
Casting details in case you’re curious: Jafar’s son Jay is played by Booboo Stewart, Cruella de Vil’s son Carlos is portrayed by Cameron Boyce, Maleficent’s daughter Mal is played by Dove Cameron, and the Evil Queen’s daughter Evie is played by new actress Sofia Carson. On the adult side of the cast, Wendy Raquel Robinson plays Cruella de Vil, Maz Jobrani plays Jafar, Dan Payne plays Beast, and Kristin Chenoweth plays Maleficent.
