Kylie Scott fans rejoice! The Dive Bar series has begun, and we’re already prepared to call it home. Dirty is the beginning of another incredible journey.
When the Stage Dive series ended with Deep last year, Kylie Scott fans the world over mourned the loss of our favorite fictional band. Saying goodbye to a favorite series like that can be traumatic. Tears are shed, chocolate is eaten, and fitting in a re-read becomes a necessity.
The good news is that beginning of a new series by the same author is the start of a whole new journey with a guide that has already proven themselves worthy. Dirty is just the beginning of our Dive Bar adventure, and we trust Kylie Scott to make it a hell of a trip.
About ‘Dirty’
The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken-hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her.
Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together.
Just when this runaway bride has nowhere left to turn, a handsome stranger offers her a broad, muscular shoulder to cry on. Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessmen she’s normally drawn to. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and is facing his own crossroads. But Lydia’s already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong–maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.
After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?
‘Dirty’ book review
Lydia and Vaughn will charm your pants off. That’s right. These two have chemistry bubbling out of their pores they’re so well suited for each other. Sure, he might not look or dress the way her usual suitors have looked, and she may not be the type of girl that he would typically gravitate toward, but their souls are the kind of match dreams are made of.
When a heroine has been wronged the way Lydia has, it’s easy to simply want her to find someone to pull her out of her predicament and make everything better. Vaughn doesn’t exactly rescue her. He gives her a place to figure things out and find her own way, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Lydia’s knight in tattooed armor doesn’t need to sweep her off her feet. She’s had her feet swept out from under her before, and it didn’t appeal.
Lydia and Vaughn are only the beginning of the Dive Bar story. We’re quickly introduced to the rest of the family, including Nell, Vaughn’s sister, Eric, Rosie, Boyd, Andre, Pat, Joe and more. We can only imagine where this series will go from here, but if it incorporates even a few of these endearing and beautifully complicated characters, we’ll be one-clicking away for years to come.
Despite how Lydia barges into Vaughn’s life and throws his plans into a tailspin, it’s clear that he’s a little lost himself. As much as Vaughn’s kindness gives Lydia a place to grow and find peace, Lydia provides a similar space for Vaughn. He may live through his music, but the beauty of being a musician is that the music will stay a part of him no matter where he is. It just takes him a while to let that lesson sink in.
We can’t wait to check back in on Lydia and Vaughn throughout the Dive Bar journey. They introduced us to this colorful cast of characters that will undoubtedly be carving their own places in our hearts one by one. Kylie Scott’s stories have always been chock full of heart and family, neither of which is in short supply here. Where Stage Dive made it clear that home can be wherever your loved ones are, Dive Bar reminds us that home can be a place, too. Some may find home in the craziest of places, but sometimes there’s only one crazy place where you feel at home. It may be a house, a natural wonder, the stage, or maybe, just maybe, an old comfortable bar in the hometown you never imagined feeling like home again.
