The hit series, which was on the air from 2006 to 2013 centered on the titular Dexter Morgan— a Miami police department employee who specializes in blood splatter. What no one knows, however, is that he also happens to live a double life as a serial killer.

As it stands, Showtime has given the revival a ten episode series order, with plans for the limited series to debut sometime in the fall of next year.

Excitingly, actor Michael C. Hall, who portrayed the titular character over the course of the series initial run will return to reprise the role for the limited series revival.

Also on board to return is original showrunner Clyde Phillips.

Though plot details surrounding exactly what the revival might entail are scarce for the time being, Showtime’s co-president of entertainment, Gary Levine, assures fans that showrunner Clyde Phillips has come up with a great way to bring fans back into the world.

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many hears ago,” said Levine in a statement announcing the revival.

“We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.”

Showtime’s Dexter revival is slated to debut in Fall 2021.
