Watch the first 6 minutes of Disney Channel’s ‘Descendants’ featuring a new song

We’re one week away from the premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants, which follows the children of the classic Disney villains as they seek redemption.

If you can’t wait, the first six minutes are now available! After giving us a little context about the kingdom on an iPad, Descendants opens with the son of Belle and Beast, Prince Ben, asking that the children of certain Disney villains have a shot at redemption. After all, mom and dad, it wasn’t the kids who caused all the trouble back in your heyday!

Beast is initially hesitant, but he warms up to the idea after realizing that he too was once misinterpreted. The King and Queen agree that the children can come over to the Good Guys school where they can hopefully prove that they’re better than their parents.

The movie then hops over to the island the villains have been banished to, and the children — played by Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart, Cameron Boyce, and Sofia Carson — perform a song that appears to be titled “Rotten to the Core”. The end features a pretty great dance breakdown during an EDM-portion of the tune that feels like it’s straight out of Newsies.

Earlier this week we shared Descendants’ cover of “Be Our Guest,” which has been remixed for the digital age. We were not fans of the performance because it’s nothing like the original we fell in love with in the ’90s.

Descendents is directed by High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega and premieres Friday, July 31 on Disney Channel. Thanks to the Disney villain plot, it’s one of the more highly-anticipated Disney Channel Original Movies in recent history.

Fun fact: If you use the Watch Disney Channel app or website, you can watch the full movie now! All you need is your login for your digital cable subscription.
