Demi Lovato is in stable condition after her overdose and took to Instagram to reassure fans that she is okay and re-focusing on sobriety.
Fans of Demi Lovato know that she has never been one to hide or cover up her fight with addiction. From her candid discussions of sobriety in her documentary Simply Complicated to her heartbreaking song “Sober” where she admitted to relapsing, Lovato has worked hard to be honest with her fans and help remove some of the stigma of admitting to a substance abuse problem. And in the wake of what appears to be an accidental overdose, Lovato is continuing to be honest with fans about her struggle.
Lovato has been recovering in the hospital after overdosing, and both the artist and her entire team have been pretty tight-lipped about what happened. However, Lovato took to Instagram on Sunday to not only let her fans know she’s okay, but that she’s focusing on regaining her sobriety.
Addiction is an incredibly pernicious disease to fight, and as Lovato says in her statement, it isn’t one that disappears or fades over time. While Lovato’s fight to stay sober and healthy will likely be a lifelong one, we’re so happy to hear that she’s decided to take the time she needs to put herself first and get sober and healthy once again. Even better, because of her openness with her own struggles, we can only hope that others fighting addiction can feel empowered to get the help they need as well.
We’re wishing Demi Lovato all the best as she begins the road to recovery. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, the American National Drug/Substance Abuse Hotline is 800-662-HELP and the UK Drug/Substance Abuse Hotline is 0300 123 6600.
