DC’s followup to Shazam!, Black Adam, has apparently found its director in Jaume Collet-Serra.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Collet-Serra has signed on to direct the Dwayne Johnson followup to Shazam!.
Collet-Serra is most commonly known for directing horror movies, such as House of Wax and Orphan, but has also turned his hand to bigger budget action pieces, such as Liam Neeson’s The Commuter. He recently wrapped production on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which also stars Johnson.
Black Adam will be based around the titular character, a long-time nemesis of Shazam. Originally a corrupted Egyptian prince, and predecessor to Captain Marvel, Black Adam later became an anti-hero, seeking to clear his name and reputation.
The character was first slated to appear in Shazam!, though DC ultimately decided that the story warranted its own movie.
There is currently no release date set for Black Adam. The only known cast member is Johnson in the titular role. Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo will produce alongside Johnson, as well as Dany and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions.
