Lucifer is the latest comic book franchise to get adapted for television. Fox has ordered a crime procedural starring the handsome devil.
Viewers, if you’re about to complain about yet another superhero adaptation series, you’ve got only yourself to blame.
After all, you keep tuning in. DC and Marvel are fighting for dominance over both the movie and television industries, producing adaptation after adaptation, and it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down.

Variety reports that Fox has given a pilot order to the DC Comics series Lucifer, with Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Len Wiseman serving as executive producers. Californication creator Tom Kapinos has penned the pilot script.
Created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Drinkenberg, Lucifer follows Lucifer Morningstar, a charming and sophisticated man running a night bar in Los Angeles.
The champion of individuality and free will, Lucifer is a pretty cool guy. He’s also the former Lord of Hell, who decided to abandon his post when he got bored of the gig, setting out to challenge humanity’s perception of his character.
The catch? Fox is choosing to develop this series as a police procedural, with Lucifer helping the LAPD punish criminals.
This format, of course, means sacrificing character arcs and long-running mysteries for week-to-week crime solving, and the main character’s satanic twist will likely just be icing on the cake.
While The CW is currently proving that comic book adaptation series can be excellent, we’ll reserve judgement on this one.
