First look at David O. Russell’s ‘American Hustle’ starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper

Two images from David O. Russell’s next film American Hustle. The film has a stellar cast including the reunion of Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

The film is a drama about a 1970s FBI sting known as Abscam that took down several U.S. congressmen.

Here are the first two official images:

The two images show a hint of perhaps the most exciting aspect of the film: its cast. The cast is stellar: it includes Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K., Robert De Niro, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, and Michael Pena.

Bale, Cooper, Lawrence, Adams, and De Niro will all be working with Russell for the second time. They all starred in one of his two most recent films, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook. Jennifer Lawrence and Christian Bale of course won Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for their roles in Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter, respectively.

As we’ve said in the past, we’re interested to see Louis C.K. in the film. He’s perhaps the world’s premiere stand-up comedian at the moment. His work on his show Louie shows that he has the dramatic chops that American Hustle will require. He currently stars in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, a film that is currently in very limited release.

This is one of the films we’re most looking forward to this year. Both of David O. Russell’s two most recent films, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, have received several Oscar nominations. They’ve both won some of the awards they’ve been nominated for. When you take into consideration the cast, the subject matter, and the Christmas release date, it should be expected to make a solid Oscar push.
