The CW’s live-action Powerpuff Girls has found its leading ladies.
The Powerpuff Girls are gearing up to make a splash over at The CW where a live-action adaptation of the beloved cartoon series is officially on the way.
Now, we finally know who’ll be starring as the titular trio of superheroes in question.
According to Variety, actresses Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault have all signed on to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation.
On the series, Bennett will play Blossom, Cameron will play Bubbles, and Perrault will play Buttercup.
The forthcoming CW series, which was first announced in August 2020, will find viewers catching back up again with the pint sized superheroes as adults. Now in their 20s, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup feel resentful over the fact that the trade-off to fighting crime as kids means that they lost out on their childhood.
When the world finds themselves in need of the Powerpuff Girls once more, however, it’ll be anyone’s guess with regards to whether the girls will all agree to get the band back to together and save the day.
In addition to announcing its series stars, today’s casting news also came with a bit more insight as to what we can expect from the Powerpuff Girls all grown up.
First up, Blossom is described as being both anxious and reclusive as a byproduct of having repressed kiddie-superhero trauma.
Meanwhile, Bubbles has taken her sweet-girl disposition to new heights as an adult. Per the official character synopsis, Bubbles comes onboard to fight evil once more in an effort to re-enter the spotlight.
Finally, Buttercup has become something of a recluse as an adult. Since the team disbanded, she’s focused on keeping her identity a secret and living an anonymous life.
Behind the camera, Heather Regnier and Academy Award winner Diablo Cody (Juno) are on board to write and executive produce. Meanwhile, powerhouse producer Greg Berlanti is also on board to executive produce along with Sara Schechter, and David Madden. Berlanti, Schechter, and Madden will all produce through the Berlanti Productions banner.
