Congratulations to Waterstones Piccadilly, who is the first bookstore in the world* to announce their Harry Potter and the Cursed Child midnight release party.
The popular British bookstore chain has announced that their Piccadilly location — which boasts the biggest selection of books in England across six floors — will host a Cursed Child midnight release party in July.
Tickets for the event are on sale now, and are required if you wish to attend the midnight release party. £15 gets you a copy of the book as well as a “drinks voucher” (for Butterbeer), and each copy of the script book “will be exclusively stamped on the night to mark this special occasion.” They encourage party goers to wear their “Wizarding World Finest,” and additional party details will arrive via email in the weeks to come. Waterstones is no stranger to Harry Potter midnight release parties. Our Harry Potter podcast, MuggleCast, hosted two events with Waterstones Piccaddilly, including one for the midnight release of Deathly Hallows. It was a fun event filled with lots of activities, and we’re sure they’ll do something similarly cool for The Cursed Child.
It’s ironic that Waterstones Piccadilly would be the first bookstore to announce an event, since those in London are the last people who will need to rely on a copy of the script book to see the story (since, you know, the play is happening an eight minute walk away). For those of us who aren’t in reach of London, other major retailers are expected to announce their midnight release parties in the coming weeks. Hypable previously confirmed with American retailers Barnes & Noble and Books a Million that they intend to host special events for the release of The Cursed Child, but details are still to come.
It’s exciting to see one big bookstore announce their midnight release party. It feels like 2007 all over again!
On the most recent episode of MuggleCast we made our final predictions about what will happen in The Cursed Child. Listen here.
*We’ve yet to see any other retailers formally announce their midnight release party. Know of any? Hit the comments below so fellow Harry Potter fans will know!
