Creed III is officially on the way— and this time around it’ll find Michael B. Jordan serving as director.
According to Deadline, a third installment of MGM’s Creed saga is officially on the horizon— and the threequel has already found its director in none other than Michael B. Jordan.
Jordan, of course, has starred in the first two installments of the Rocky offshoots as Adonis Creed— the son of famed boxer, Apollo Creed, who’s determined to make a name for himself in the world of boxing while following in his father’s footsteps.
But while Jordan is no stranger to the world of Creed, Creed III will mark the actor’s directorial debut.
In a statement announcing his newly minted role as Creed III’s director, Jordan spoke of how he feels as though learning from working with directors such as Ryan Coogler and Denze Washington has gone a long way as far as preparing him to take the reins on such a huge film.
“Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. ‘Creed III’ is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment,” said Michael B. Jordan in a statement.
“This franchise and in particular the themes of ‘Creed III’ are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake,” the actor continued.
Others involved behind the camera on Creed III include Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A new Legacy) and Zach Baylin (King Richard), both of whom teamed up to write the screenplay for the threequel based on an outline by Ryan Coogler.
Meanwhile, both Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad have already signed on to reprise their roles for the next installment of the franchise. Still unclear is whether Sylvester Stallone will return to reprise his role as Adonis’ mentor, Rocky Balboa.
Creed III is set to hit theaters Thanksgiving 2022.
