Once Upon A Time star Colin O’Donoghue is returning to the small screen.
According to Deadline, actor Colin O’Donoghue has officially been cast in an upcoming scripted series called The Right Stuff.
Set to air via the National Geographic channel, the forthcoming series is based off of author Tom Wolfe’s best-selling non-fiction book of the same name.
Set during the Cold War, The Right Stuff kicks off with the birth of NASA’s Project Mercury, which ultimately ends up being the catalyst for the race to space between the Soviet Union and the United States.
The series focuses on a small group of military fighter pilots (known collectively as the Mercury Seven) who become overnight celebrities after they’re recruited to test experimental air crafts and rockets in an effort to become the first Mercury astronauts.
O’Donoghue, who is best known for portraying the role of Captain Hook on ABC’s Once Upon A Time, has been tapped to play the role of Lt. Gordon Cooper.
Gordon Cooper is described as being the youngest of the bunch — and the Mercury Seven member whose involvement on the project came as a surprise to the many who weren’t expecting him to be picked.
O’Donoghue is taking over the role from Game of Thrones alum Joe Dempsie, who has exited the series due to visa complications.
Other cast members on the series include Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman, Aaron Stanton, Michael Trotter, Micah Stock, and James Lafferty. The aforementioned actors are set to play John Glenn, Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Deke Slayton, and Scott Carpenter, respectively.
Directed by Game of Thrones helmer David Nutter, and written by Will Staples, The Right Stuff is set to premiere on the National Geographic channel in 2020.
