Netflix’s upcoming series about the early life of Colin Kaepernick has added two familiar faces to its cast.
Update (11/19/2020): On Wednesday (November 18), Netflix announced that actors Mary-Louise Parker and Nick Offerman have officially joined the cast of Colin in Black & White.
Created by Colin Kaepernick along with Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay, the series focuses on the NFL superstar turned activist’s early years and follows along on his journey to becoming the great quarterback the world was introduced to later on.
For the Netflix limited series, Mary-Louise Parker and Nick Offerman will be playing Teresa Kaepernick and Rick Kaepernick, respectively.
Teresa and Rick are Colin’s adoptive parents. They also happen to be white, and must navigate what it means to raise a Black child in a predominantly white family and community.
Parker and Offerman join a cast which includes The Get Down’s Jaden Michael. You can read more about who he’ll play in the series below.
Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for Colin in Black & White.

Ava DuVernay has found her Colin Kaepernick for a brand new Netflix limited series that focuses on the athlete turned activist’s early years.
On Tuesday (October 27), Netflix announced that actor Jaden Michael has been cast to portray a teenaged Colin Kaepernick in the brand new limited series, Colin in Black & White.
Created by Colin Kaepernick and Academy Award nominee, Ava DuVernay, the forthcoming limited series is comprised of six episodes total.
These days, most might know Kaepernick best for his political activism, which began four years ago in 2016 when the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback decided to start taking a knee during the national anthem in an effort to protest against police brutality and systemic racism.

In Colin in Black & White, those who tune in will be treated to an introspective look at Kaepernick’s adolescent years as a Black teenager growing up with a white adopted family.
The limited series also follows his journey to becoming a great quarterback while defining his identity and lending meaningful insight into the acts and experiences that led him to become the activist he is today.
Jaden Michael (who previously starred in Netflix’s The Get Down) is set to portray the professional football player during his formative high school years.
Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick’s Colin in Black & White limited series debut via Netflix.
