Charlize Theron doesn’t pull any punches in the first full-length trailer for her new project, Atomic Blonde.
The official synopsis for Atomic Blonde reads, “The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.”
It may sound like your typical spy thriller, but just wait until you get a look at this trailer:
Female characters don’t usually get to achieve the same level of violence as males do in action movies such as this, but Theron has obviously put in serious work to make sure this film is as brutal and satisfying as any other in its genre.
What really got me excited about this movie — other than literally everything — is that opening shot of Theron’s character whaling on two guys where the camera doesn’t cut away from the action. This is rare to see in American action movies, but shots such as these have recently garnered attention thanks to the likes of Daredevil, John Wick, and others.
Atomic Blonde is based on Antony Johnston and Sam Hart‘s graphic novel The Coldest City. It will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick and the upcoming Deadpool 2) and also stars John Goodman, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsen, and Til Schweiger.
