Chance The Rapper is working on a musical that could be heading to the big screen.
According to Deadline, Grammy Award winning artist Chance The Rapper is in the process of developing a new feature musical set to be titled Hope.
Though Hope will mark the Coloring Book artist’s first foray into developing a feature film, Chance The Rapper is no stranger to Hollywood.
The Grammy winner made his acting debut in A24’s straight-to-streaming thriller, Slice. Additionally, he’ll be featured along the likes of Anna Kendrick, Sam Rockwell, Justin Timberlake, and Jamie Dornan in DreamWorks’ sequel to 2016’s Trolls, Trolls World Tour.
Hope is set in Chance’s hometown of Chicago. The feature musical will follow a group of teenagers from the Windy City who join forces to turn art into action within their community.
Major studio MGM is behind the upcoming feature musical which will be a joint effort between Chance and his longtime collaborator Nico Segal who releases music under the name Donnie Trumpet.
The duo have worked together on music for quite some time, notably garnering attention for their album Surf, released free of charge under the artist Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment.
Segal’s role will find the musician crafting original music for Hope. Empire scribe Carlito Rodriguez has been recruited to write the original screenplay.
Finally, Chance’s manager, Pat Corcoran, will serve as producer on the project alongside Straight Outta Compton producer Scott Bernstein.
There’s currently no word on when we can expect Hope to premiere.
