Catherine Zeta-Jones is heading to network television for her next project.
According to Deadline, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has officially joined the cast of Prodigal Son season 2 on Fox.
The series, which is described as a serial killer thriller, focuses on a criminal profiler named Malcolm Bright (played by Tom Payne) who possesses the ability to get inside the minds of serial killers in an effort to help the NYPD solve murder cases. Bright picked up the uncanny trait from his father, Martin Whitly, who also happened to be a serial killer notoriously known as “The Surgeon.”
Season 2 of the hit Fox series will find Zeta-Jones starring opposite Michael Sheen, who plays the sinister Dr. Martin Whitley himself.

Specifically, the Academy Award winning actress will be taking on the role of Dr. Capshaw, who Dr. Whitley meets while assigned to infirmary duty. Initially, Capshaw (Zeta-Jones) finds joy in ordering Whitley (Sheen) to perform tasks such as mopping the floors and cleaning out bedpans, but she has a change of heart when Whitley shows just how valuable he can be when it comes to treating patients.
In a statement announcing Zeta-Jones’ involvement with the series second season, Fox Entertainment president, Michael Thorn spoke of how excited he is to bring the actress on board.
“An extraordinary talent, Catherine Zeta-Jones is the perfect foil for the brilliant Michael Sheen,” said Thorn. “I can’t wait to see these two greats go head-to-head in a season that is bound to raise the bar set by an outstanding Season One.”
Prodigal Son returns to Fox on January 12.
