Hulu’s thriller, Castle Rock, will continue to haunt the Maine town for a second season.
The Stephen King inspired series, Castle Rock will return for a second season on the streaming platform. According to showrunner Dustin Thomason, the series could take a page from the American Horror Story playbook and go into an anthology series that will intersect over time.
Speaking to THR, Thomason says, “Each season is going to be its own self-contained story: beginning, middle and end. But I think that just as the books do, we want to surprise viewers with the ways in which the stories intersect. Just as the places the characters pop up in very unexpected ways throughout the books, that’s the kind of anthology that we would like to tell. One of the things about the King universe or multiverse is that some very strange things can happen when it comes to the ways that the stories unfold, and hopefully there’ll be surprises along the way in terms of how the anthology works in that way.”
The series has already made a name for itself on the platform. Hulu describes the series as having the highest completion rates of their original programming in its first two weeks.

Hulu may want to consider going all in on King-adjacent works in the same way that CBS is expanding the Star Trek universe.
Castle Rock follows the premiere of a more direct adaptation 11.22.63. Senior vice president and head of content Craig Erwich tells Variety that Castle Rock has brought in King fans evidenced by the uptick in viewership for both 11.22.63 and the continued streaming of It, the service’s top performing film, which Hulu licenses.
It is unclear if any of the cast from season 1 will return for season 2.
Castle Rock season 1, episode 6, “Filter” premieres on Hulu, Wednesday August 15.
