Two weeks after we learned that Stana Katic was leaving Castle, there’s even bigger news to report: Castle is officially ending after the season 8 finale next week.
Update (May 13): Nathan Fillion has addressed the news of his show’s cancelation via a series of tweets:
All things must end. It has been an honor working with the men and women of Castle. I am truly amazed at what we’ve done. Thank you all.

Dear Fans,
In whatever project I do next, loudly notice how unlike Castle and fresh and versatile I am. Thanks.— Nathan Fillion (@NathanFillion) May 13, 2016
Original story (May 12): The news is a bit of a shocker since we just learned on April 19 that Katic wasn’t being invited back to Castle due to “budgetary reasons” while Nathan Fillion stayed on board for season 9. Perhaps the fan reaction to Katic’s departure led ABC to decide to end Castle completely.
In fact, Castle’s cancellation is for the best. Many viewers thought that the show shouldn’t go on without Katic, and now they’re getting their wish.
Castle’s series finale will air this Monday on ABC. Watch a trailer for what we now know is the final episode ever:
In April we learned that two endings were shot, and according to TV Line, a “closure-filled ending” will be used this Monday to wrap things up nicely.
The show launched in 2009 and has had both Katic and Fillion on board since the beginning.
Do you think ‘Castle’s cancellation is for the best given Katic being forced out?
ABC also decided to cancel Agent Carter, The Muppets, Galavant, and Nashville today. The Catch, American Crime, and The Real O’Neals were renewed.
