The first full-length Carrie trailer has dropped starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. Check out the preview for the horror remake.

In 1976, Sissy Spacek did for high-school prom what Jaws did for the water, playing the title character in the horror classic, Carrie.

Now, Chloe Grace Moretz has taken over the role in an updated remake due out next month. The first trailer gives us an in-depth look at what Moretz and co-star Julianne Moore have in store for the 2013 crowd.

Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, Carrie tells the story of a high school outcast who discovers she has telekinetic abilities.

Fair warning: If you somehow missed the pop-culture boat on the Carrie story, this trailer boasts some pretty major spoilers.

Check it out:

Moore, who takes on the role of Carrie’s fanatically religious mother, sets an eerie tone in the opening scene of the clip, singing as her daughter screams from inside a closet.

The two and a half minute clip shows off the major similarities and differences between the new and original movies (as well as much of the plot). Technology obviously plays a much bigger role in this update, but most of the original elements are in place.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Glee, Big Love) adapted the screenplay for the film directed by Kimberly Pierce (Boys don’t cry, Stop-Loss).

Moretz is staying busy going into 2014. The 16-year-old has seven projects in the works and is just coming off of Kick-Ass 2.

Carrie opens in theaters on Oct 18, just in time for Halloween.
