Captain Marvel isn’t supposed to make her MCU debut until her standalone film in 2019, but some eagle-eyed fans are certain they spotted her in the latest Infinity War trailer.
Marvel has made it pretty clear that we would not see Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, until 2019 when her standalone film premieres. And while many MCU fans have stopped hoping for a super-secret appearance from Captain Marvel in Infinity War, there’s still a part of the fandom that hasn’t lost hope that Marvel hasn’t been telling the whole truth regarding Carol’s MCU debut.

When Marvel released the new Infinity War trailer during the Super Bowl, there was one shot in particular that reignited the suspicion that we might get to meet Captain Marvel, however briefly, in Infinity War. As comicbook.com reports, this theory is all due to a split second of a shot about 10 seconds into the trailer, but fans have taken the image and run with it.

So did Marvel fool us all? Did they accidentally leak a quick shot of Captain Marvel’s ACTUAL first appearance in Infinity War?
Honestly, probably not. While Marvel does love to keep secrets and make big reveals, the person walking behind Cap is more than likely Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch, not Captain Marvel.
The “design” in question actually seems to be created by someone’s hair, and if you watch the clip a few times very closely, you can see it move like hair. More importantly, the person behind Cap is either wearing a long coat or a cape. Captain Marvel wears neither of those things when she’s suited up, but Scarlet Witch is most certainly known for her love of long trenchcoats.
Additionally, Vision appears injured in this scene. While we can’t say for sure that he is, if he is nursing a wound, it would be a perfectly natural moment to choose to stick closely to the woman he’s romantically involved with, Wanda Maximoff.
So it seems that for now anyway, we must acquiesce that Marvel wasn’t lying when they said Captain Marvel would not appear in Infinity War. Sure, anything is possible and it would be awesome for her to make a surprise appearance, but it seems that for now, we’re grasping at straws.
