Captain Marvel 2 has found its villain in Zawe Ashton.
According to Deadline, actress Zawe Ashton has officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated Marvel sequel, Captain Marvel 2.
Ashton’s involvement with the project will find her squaring off against Brie Larson on the big screen as the sequel’s villain.
Unfortunately, those itching to find out more details with regards to who Carol Danvers will be going toe to toe with this time around will have to sit tight.
Neither Disney nor Marvel Studios have commented on today’s casting news and as a result, there aren’t many more details with regards to what we can expect from Zawe Ashton’s character in Captain Marvel 2.
Similarly, plot details for the MCU sequel are being kept firmly under wraps in general.
Ashton’s is the first major casting news we’ve heard for the highly anticipated sequel, which is set to be helmed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods, Candyman).
DaCosta, who was announced to be directing the sequel last summer, takes over directorial duties from Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck, who teamed up to direct the first installment of the burgeoning MCU franchise back in 2019.
Others involved behind the scenes include WandaVision scribe Megan McDonnell, who is set to write the screenplay for Carol Danvers’ next big adventure on the big screen.
Captain Marvel 2 is slated to soar onto the silver screen on July 8, 2022.
