Sometimes the best part of Bones isn’t the case, or even the main cast. Sometimes it’s the rotating cast of interns that have become an essential part of the show.
When the third season finale ended with everyone’s beloved Zack being arrested for being involved in the Gormagon case, it left a hole in the cast and in the lab. Who would fill his shoes became an actual storyline for the show? Creator Hart Hanson decided to have a rotating guest cast who would play interns vying for the spot.
What started as a storyline eventually developed into one of the show’s biggest assets. Each week we would get a new, interesting face who had a particular set of characteristics that somehow managed to mesh and mess with the main cast. Some have stayed and some have gone, but they all have added to the show’s overall success. Below we list some of the current “squinterns” and some who haven’t been around lately but are still near and dear to the lab.
Jessica: One of the season 9 additions, Jessica Warren is looking for a role model and someone to aspire to be. She didn’t get the greatest start, as she believes in creativity when it comes to science. This clashes with Brennan’s style, who does not believe in speculation in science but deals in facts and truth. Recently, the two found mutual ground when Jessica helped Bones with her Twitter account.
Clark: Who does not love Clark Edison? Clark was the first intern to replace Zack and at the time Bones could not see anyone else in his shoes. Luckily Clark is ambitious and had a desire to move up at the Jeffersonian. He is currently the second anthropologist at the Jeffersonian, focusing on archaeological work. He is also the closest Bones has to a true contemporary.
Oliver: Dr. Wells was introduced in season 8 of Bones, much to the ire of Dr. B. His intelligence is off the scale, but his delivery could use some MAJOR work. As time has gone by, the team has been able to adapt to his gruff, know-it-all attitude. He is a part of the team but he isn’t well-liked. Check out the video below for a taste:
Daisy: One of the most controversial hires, but ultimately a part of the family, Daisy Wick is also one of the longest-running interns on the show. This was in part of her on-again, off-again, on-again relationship with Lance Sweets, who she ended up having a baby boy with shortly after his untimely death. We don’t yet know if she will be back this season, but we certainly hope so.
Aristoo: Mr. Vaziri was another one of season 4’s new additions that tried to take the place of Zack. He pretended to have an accent so he could avoid the questions of why he was a scientist but also a devout Muslim. He was later outed and eventually everyone came around. He is one of the more stable interns because of his relationship with Cam, starting in season 8, but even that is not without its trials. They have different opinions on important issues, such as marriage. He will be the intern in the next new episode, so we might see some developments.
Wendell: Probably one of the most beloved interns in the history of the show, Mr. Bray has certainly had his fair share of ups and downs. Brought on in season 4, he was the cute little brother of the team, even joining Booth’s hockey team. He has always had an issue with money and the team has found ways to keep him around. He dated Angela for a bit, but that ended. His most recent storyline has dealt with his bone cancer, but recently he has overcome that hurdle.
There are more interns that we didn’t get to discuss. Did we miss your favorite? Let us know below!
