The Bloodshot trailer has Vin Diesel as a supersoldier on a mission of bloody revenge against a corrupt and manipulative megacorporation.
Comic book adaptations are thick on the ground these days, but most of them still hail from the big two of Marvel and DC.
Despite this, there are hundreds of stories out there from slightly smaller comics houses, along with more independent press companies and writers just waiting to be adapted to the big screen.
Bloodshot is one of those. Though the trailer may look like your average sci-fi adventure film, it is, in fact, a Valiant Comics adaptation of a comic of the same name.
Check out the trailer below!
Bloodshot was created by by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton, and tells the story of former soldier Ray Garrison. Former as in formerly dead, but was then brought back to life thanks to Rising Spirit Technologies.
Not only that, but Garrison — played by Vin Diesel with all his signature gruffness — was also given technological upgrades due to billions of nanobots that were injected into his blood. These nanobots not only repair his body at an inhuman speed (as we see in the trailer), they likewise given him super-strength, shapeshifting abilities and the ability to interface with technology.
Of course, Rising Spirit Technologies didn’t do this out of the kindness of their heart, but instead so that they could craft the perfect soldier. Ray — codename Bloodshot — uses his newfound abilities to find and kill the person who killed his partner.
Except he suffers from total memory loss, and so ends up killing the same person over and over again. Eventually, he realizes that the corporation who gave him these powers manipulated him into doing their dirty, bloody work for them. Cue the revenge story against RST!
The star-studded cast includes Vin Diesel in the title role, along with Toby Kebbell of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Sam Heughan from Outlander, Eiza Gonzalez from Baby Driver, Talulah Riley of Westworld, Johannes Haukur Johannesson from Game of Thrones, Lamorne Morris from New Girl, Guy Pearce from Prometheus and Alex Hernandez from Unreal.
Bloodshot is directed by Dave Wilson, who worked with Deadpool director Tim Miller at Blur Studios. He’s best known for directing cinematics for video games, including Halo 2, Mass Effect 2 and BioShock Infinite.
He’s directing from a script written by Academy Award-nominated writer Eric Heisserer, who wrote Arrival and is showrunner on the upcoming Shadow and Bone Netflix series.
Bloodshot will premiere in theaters on February 21, 2020.
