Bill Hader and James McAvoy could be facing off against Pennywise the dancing clown in the upcoming It sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors Bill Hader and James McAvoy are currently in talks to star opposite Jessica Chastain in It: Chapter 2.
If they sign on, both actors will be joining the Losers Club, playing adult versions of the kids we met in the first installment of New Line’s Stephen King adaptation.
McAVoy is currently in talks for the role of Bill (played by Jaeden Lieberher in the first installment). Meanwhile, if Hader signs on, he’ll be taking over as Richie, who was portrayed by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard in the first movie.
With Chastain playing an older version of Beverly, it looks like returning director Andy Muschietti’s grown up Losers Club is almost completely rounded out.
Though the It sequel will focus on the children all grown up, it’s possible we might still see the youngsters from 2016’s It appear in the sequel.
Muschietti’s original plan was to bring the younger versions of the characters back for flashback sequences, but as the script for the second film is still being worked on, there’s no telling whether or not that’ll end up panning out.
“The thing I want to bring in the next film that I couldn’t do here is the dialogue between the two timelines. That was important in the book and we didn’t get to explore that here, but I wanted to keep the story of the kids as pure and without interference as I could,” said Muschietti in an interview with Variety last year.
It should also be noted that none of the original cast save for Bill Skarsgard, who will reprise his role as Pennywise, have officially signed on to appear in the sequel.
We’ll be looking forward to hearing more details on It: Chapter 2 as the film moves further and further into production!
