The Vampire Diaries had its Comic-Con panel today, and it was filled with fun moments and great discussions.
Hypable went to The Vampire Diaries Comic-Con panel this evening and while the entire panel was amazing as a whole, we wanted to point out the bits that excited us the most. Be sure to keep an eye out on the SDCC category for more from The Vampire Diaries cast and creators coming soon!
The first thing they showed was a blooper reel of Ian and Kat getting written off the show. They showed us the final scene of the season which led into all of the same white lights that were blinding them turning off, with the actors being pissed that they’ve been written off the show. They continue to say how they couldn’t have been better cast members, while juxtaposed footage shows their co-stars angry at them for eating their food and Nina replacing all of Ian’s stuff for her own wardrobe.
Definitely the best part of the video, and the panel, was when Kat called Joseph Morgan to tell him they think Damon and Bonnie are getting their own spinoff, to which Morgan was still completely in character and replied as Klaus, telling them he was going to kill them if that happens.
An absolutely adorable way to get the panel started, and we’ll be sure to post the video if and when it shows up online!
Matt Davis made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con! Davis explains that Alaric will be back but since he can’t enter Mystic Falls he’s going to be a professor at the University instead. Will he get a love interest? Julie Plec hints that might be the case; but don’t worry, it won’t be Elena.
The stars start talking about how all of the characters have evolved and Somerhalder mentioned that he didn’t want Damon to be more than a sex driven killer but executive producer Julie Plec and writer Kevin Williamson had to talk him into it, to make sure he’s more than just a killer.
Dobrev also mentions that she loves how Elena has evolved, stating “Elena has gone from girl next door to kickass woman.” And they’re all right: There’s so much character development that’s happened in the five seasons of The Vampire Diaries, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing them acknowledge it on stage at Comic-Con .
Steroline: Does it break the girl code?
Would Elena call girl code if Steroline happened? Nina says no, because Elena dated both of the brothers. What we’re curious is also if Tyler would complain about Stefan breaking the bro code too, too. We have a feeling that Tyler would be more upset with Stefan for dating Caroline than Elena would be upset at Caroline, but that’s just us.
Somerhalder ships nothing
When the cast was asked by a fan what team they would be on, Somerhalder interjects with a question of his own: “Does anyone realize that this woman should not be with either of these guys? So many bad things have happened to her because of it – her house burned down, her aunt died.” And he makes a great point!
Jokingly, Paul Wesley mentioned that Elena should date someone else, saying “I think she should date Matt! He’s a good guy.” The cast jokingly went along with it and agreed, until Dobrev said otherwise. “She dated him already, he wasn’t that good in bed,” which made the whole audience go “ohhhhh” until she said she was kidding. Too bad Zach Roerig wasn’t there to defend Matt!
A dynamic story
The cast was talking about how the story will have changed in the sixth season as opposed to the previous one, to which Somerhalder responds with something quite simple: “We’ve been telling this story for years and just like life evolves the story has to too, and it’s going to create a great dynamic.”
A lot of fans may not be happy with the direction the show is going, campaigning for The Vampire Diaries to end, but we’re so intrigued to see how they are going to pull off this next season.
