Star Trek Into Darkness continues to get great reviews, but there’s been some backlash over actress Alice Eve’s underwear scene. Now we have video of an unreleased shower scene with Benedict Cumberbatch that was cut from the final film.

Star Trek fans have been discussing it over the last few days, Alice Eve’s quick underwear scene, and whether it should have been included in the film. The film’s writer even issued an apology to fans, saying, “We also had Kirk shirtless in underpants in both movies, but I do not want to make light of something that some construe as misogynistic. What I’m saying is I hear you, I take responsibility and will be more mindful in the future.”

In an interview with Conan, Star Trek Into Darkness director, J.J. Abrams, discusses the controversial scene with Conan and then reveals that there was actually supposed to be a nude shower scene with Benedict Cumberbatch which they had cut from the final film. Check out the interview below which includes Benedict Cumberbatch in his angry nude shower scene:

Does this change the feelings of any fans that felt Alice Eve’s underwear scene was gratuitous? It would certainly seem to validate the fact that J.J. Abrams did have good intentions when including Alice Eve’s underwear scene in the film, seeing as he intended to draw both demographics into seeing the film by shooting these two scenes.

So, do you think that there would have been similar backlash from fans if this clip had made the final cut of Star Trek Into Darkness? Would Alice Eve’s character’s underwear scene have warranted an apology if Benedict Cumberbatch had been seen in even less clothing? Let us know what you think of the clip below.
