Celebrities like Ben Affleck and Josh Groban will be living on an extremely low budget of $1.50 a day to better understand extreme poverty.

The Global Poverty Project’s Live Below the Line challenge “is a campaign that’s challenging the way people in the US think about poverty – and making a huge difference.”

“By living off just $1.50 per day for food for 5 days, you will be bringing to life the direct experiences of the 1.4 billion people currently living in extreme poverty and helping to make real change,” the website reads.

Affleck and Groban will be joined by other celebrities like Sophia Bush, Debi Mazar, and Hunter Biden. They will be tweeting about their experience living on such a small amount of money.

For celebrities, living off $1.50 will be a pretty remarkable challenge. We assume they will still have access to their homes, cars, etc, but they will only be able to eat and drink using their daily allowance of $1.50.

Interested in doing the challenge yourself? You can sign up on LiveBelowTheLine.com to make your pledge. By registering, you’ll also kick off a fundraising event where your family and friends can donate money to a hunger or poverty campaign of your choosing. Live Below the Line says that participants were each able to raise an average of $221 last year.

We applaud Affleck, Groban, and everyone else participating in this important and eye opening challenge!
