It’s no secret that we at Hypable have our theories about Marion Cotillard’s Dark Knight Rises character Miranda Tate, but actress Marion Cotillard mentioned yesterday that her character does not originate from the comic books.
Listeners of Hypable’s HeroHype got a full six minutes packed with reasons to believe that Talia Al Ghul will be Ms. Tate’s alter ego, but according to the Oscar winning French actress, her character is an original creation.
“Well, actually, it was not based off of a character in the comic.” she revealed when they asked whether she looked to the comic books for inspiration while playing the mysterious Miranda Tate. When they pressed her for details and asked if she was telling us the truth, she replied with a smile: “Yes, I am.”
And if they catch up with her this time next year, will they have caught her out in a lie? “No,” she said emphatically. “No!”
“It’s amazing to work on Christopher Nolan’s set. I’m so happy that I’m working with him again. I could do tons of movies with him. It’s a huge project, but at the same time, it’s like a family crew. He’s worked with them for such a long time, so you really feel like you’re on a family set.”

So what do you think? Is Cotillard just saying what Nolan has told her to say to conceal the surprise? The evidence that Talia al Ghul will make an appearance in the film has been pretty overwhelming. Do you think we’ll catch Cotillard in a fib next Summer? Is she telling the truth about Miranda Tate being simply Miranda Tate?
