Bad Boys for Life released a new trailer, and we see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence heading out on one last adventure together.
Bad Boys for Life is the third movie in the Bad Boys franchise, and Detective Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Detective Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) have aged since the last time we saw them 15 years ago. However, while Lowrey says he’ll continue hunting down criminals until he’s 100, Burnett is ready to retire and settle into family life.
However, when Mike is assigned to work with a new group on the force called AMMO (a group he disparagingly called a high school boy band with guns), he learns someone has put a price on his head. Now Mike must call in his old buddy Marcus to fight beside him one last time to save his life and take out whatever threat is after him.
Will Smith released the new trailer for Bad Boys for Life on his YouTube channel, and it gives us a taste of the adventure to come in the new movie. And suffice it to say, that even though it’s been over a decade since a Bad Boys movie, the heart-pounding adventure hasn’t slowed down a bit.
While director Michael Bay isn’t directing this Bad Boys flick as he had with the previous films, it’s pretty obvious that directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah didn’t miss a beat when it comes to over-the-top action sequences and eye-catching explosions. From the looks of this trailer, this movie is going to fit right in alongside the previous two movies.
Of course, what makes a Bad Boys movie great isn’t just the action–it’s also the cast chemistry, and from what we can see in the trailer, Lawrence and Smith are still just as hilarious onscreen as they were in Bad Boys II. The trailer is full of snappy banter between the two of them, and it seems their onscreen (and offscreen, likely) friendship hasn’t skipped a beat.
Bad Boys for Life comes to theaters at an interesting time. While there is a huge market for franchise reboots and long-awaited sequels, not every franchise is experiencing a Star Wars-level revival. Terminator: Dark Fate has notoriously struggled at the box office, despite bringing back two of the original cast members.
Will Bad Boys for Life fall prey to the same fate of Terminator, or will they manage to recapture the magic that made us fall in love with the Bad Boys movies years ago? We’ll have to judge for ourselves and see the movie when it opens in theaters on January 17.
