Swedish musician Avicii has died at the age of 28, his publicist has announced.
Details surrounding Avicii’s (real name Tim Bergling) death are still unknown, other than that he died today and was found in Oman.
His publicist said in a statement: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Though young, Avicii quickly made a name for himself over the past few years. He’s best known for songs like “Levels,” “Wake Me Up,” and “Waiting For Love.” You might also recognize his name from a shoutout in Mike Posner’s hit “Took A Pill In Ibiza” (“To show Avicii I was cool”).
The musician recently left the road to focus on creating new music. “We all reach a point in our lives and careers where we understand what matters the most to us. For me it’s creating music. That is what i live for, what I feel I was born to do,” he wrote on his website.
“Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.”
