The wait has a date, Avatar fans! The first installment of the highly anticipated comic “Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search” is set to be released early next year.
The long-awaited search for Zuko’s mother will begin to unfold on March 20, 2013. “Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search,” which was announced in June, is set to explore the mysterious disappearance of Zuko and Azula’s mother Ursa, whose whereabout have been unknown since Avatar: The Last Airbender concluded in 2008.
“The Search” will also serve as a follow-up to “The Promise,” a comic which picked up the story of Aang and his friends a year after the conclusion of the animated series. The final issue of “The Promise” was released last month. Like that comic, “The Search” will also be written by Gene Yang, with artwork provided by Gurihiru Studios.
The question of Zuko’s mother has perplexed and frustrated fans of the series for years, to a degree which surprised even the show’s creators. Even Gene Yang, himself a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, has discussed his interest in the mystery.
“I worked very, very closely with [co-creator] Mike [DiMartino] on this one,” Yang said in an interview with AvatarSpirit.net. “There were things he told me that left me speechless as a fan. One e-mail in particular… I had to step away from my computer for a day just to noodle it through. You’ll see.”
